Ghana Airports Company Augments KATH With New Dialysis Machines

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has donated two dialysis machines to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti Region.

It followed their donation of two new ones to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in the Greater Accra Region.

This, the Minister for Roads and Transport, noted was part of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) while announcing the gesture to the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace on November 20, 2024.

“GACL came as part of our CSR. We bought four dialysis machines. Two were donated to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and we have brought two here to augment the work Otumfuo is doing at the hospital,” Hon Kwaku Asiamah said on behalf of the Board and Management of the GACL.

In addition to that, he said the company was paying the one-month cost of dialysis for 50 renal disease patients who visit the KATH.

Update
He also touched on the progress of the Prempeh I International Airport after its commissioning in May.

“Work on the runway is ongoing. We initially had some challenges but it has been sorted so we are carrying it out.”

Among the delegation were the Managing Director of the GACL, Yvonne Afriyie Opare, the Board Chair of the GACL, Paul Adom Otchere and other Board and Management members.

Gratitude
The King expressed his gratitude to management and board for working hard to give his Kingdom an international airport.

“I thank you all for the Airport. Though the President spearheaded it, you implemented all needed measures and works to make it possible.”

Preserving Prempeh I Legacy
Otumfuo disclosed that the government initially wanted to name the airport after him; however, he opposed and demanded it be named after the 13th Monarch of the Kingdom whose rest house is located close to the location.

“There is a British house at the airport where Nana used to take some rest when he was on leave. You decided to put my name on it but I opposed to preserve the contribution of Nana to Asanteman.”

Otumfuo also announced plans to turn the house of Prempeh I at Airport into a Museum to immortalise his memory.

“I have told the Minister I will be working on the house to prepare it as a Museum. All his furniture in there will be kept there to save his memory.”

Operationalisation of The Airport
His Majesty further charged the Board and Management to fulfil their promise to bring in international airlines to operate at the airport.

He looks forward to the commencement of direct flights from Kumasi to Europe.

“You have promised to bring in international airlines, make sure you honour to make the facility effective. London to Kumasi, Hamburg to Kumasi should take effect.”

Additionally, he noted that all persons occupying the designated land for the airport must be evacuated with immediate effect.

“The whole land has been given to GACL for an airport. No one has a right over it. The lease on the land is one for an Airport. Take out all people on it and do the work. By the end of this year, I want the facility to be effective.”

Dialysis Machine
Meanwhile, the King was pleased with the company’s donation to KATH as he highlighted how far they would augment the operation of the hospital to bring the needed treatment to patients.

“I also thank you for machines you have brought to help health care. The kidney is underestimated until it gets damaged. The machines will go a long way to help patients.”
