GFA Executive Council to Decide on New Black Stars Coach Today

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to hold a crucial meeting today to finally decide on the next head coach of the Black Stars.

Ghana has been without a substantive coach for several weeks following the dismissal of Otto Addo after the team’s disappointing results in the March international window against Austria and Germany.

Several high-profile names have been strongly linked with the vacant position, including Portuguese tacticians Paulo Bento and Fernando Santos, the latter having guided Portugal to victory at the 2016 UEFA Euro.

Reports suggest the GFA has already completed the interview process with interested candidates. Friday’s meeting will focus on reviewing the outcomes of those interviews before making a final selection.

The timing of the decision is critical, as the Black Stars need a new coach urgently to begin preparations for upcoming international friendlies against Mexico and Wales.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside England, Croatia and Panama. The appointment of the new coach will therefore be vital in shaping the team’s campaign ahead of the Mundial in June.

The football fraternity in Ghana will be keenly awaiting the outcome of today’s meeting.
