GFA Charges RTU For Allegedly Fielding Unregistered Players in Dreams Defeat
Relegated Real Tamale United (RTU) have found themselves in fresh trouble with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following their game against Dreams FC in Dawu on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
The team has been charged with deceiving match officials by using unregistered players in the game.
A notice by the FA read, “Real Tamale United have been charged with a breach of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019, following their Ghana Premier League game against Dreams FC.
“It is alleged that the Club intentionally deceived the match officials during the said game by using unregistered players to impersonate officially registered players of their club, which constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute.”
They have until Friday, June 14, 2024, to respond to the charges.
Meanwhile, the FA is investigating the players that were used in the match that ended 8-1 in favour of Dreams.
Background
Reports indicate that the registered RTU players boycotted the game over their six-month unpaid remuneration.
In reaction to this, the Chairman of the club allegedly recruited some second-division players and bused them to play the game, masquerading the real team players.
According to sports journalist Saddick Adams, the Captain of the RTU confirmed he was in Tamale at the time of the game but was recorded to have played the game in Dawu.
