GES Mourns Students, Teacher Who Drowned On Wednesday
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has commiserated with families of deceased students and a teacher who lost their lives in separate incidents on Wednesday.
The incidents happened in the Greater Accra and Oti regions.
Nine out of 12 students drowned while returning home from school in a boat at Faana in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra region.
This was after their boat was hit by a tidal wave.
Five of the students are identified as students of Services Awareness Academy and seven from Redeemer Academy- private schools in the Weija Gbawe Municipality.
They are aged between two and 10 years, the GES says.
On the same day in the Oti region, a teacher also lost his life in a similar fashion.
The 29-year-old staff of Chinekope M/A Primary School in the Krachi West Municipality has been identified as Sampson Adu.
In a press statement dated May 11, the GES sympathised with the bereaved families.
“With a heavy heart, Management expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and assures them that our hearts and prayers are with them in these trying moments.”
