German President Breaks Ground for Centre of Excellence for Green Technologies Construction

The President of Germany, HE Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has broken the ground to make way for the construction of the Centre of Excellence for Green Technologies at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI).

The project falls under Ghanaian-German financial cooperation to enhance access to high quality, demand- driven TVET programmes in key occupational areas.

The KfW Development Bank is offering a grant of EUR 5 million while the government of Ghana will contribute EUR 600,000.

The Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) is the Project execution agency while PLANCO Consulting GmbH in cooperation with CES Consulting Engineers Salzgitter GmbH and Multi-Build Limited are the implementation Consultants.

It is expected to be completed in February 2027 after the paperworks for the award of the contract is completed in two weeks, the President was assured.

In his remarks, the Minister for Education, Hon Haruna Iddrisu, expressed gratitude to the visiting head of state for being physically present for the event.

“We are profoundly grateful. What he has done today is contributing significantly to addressing unemployment and particularly youth unemployment.”

He said this falls under President Mahama’s reset agenda, to develop a TVET policy and establish a TVET fund to support the skills training of young Ghanaians so as to make meaningful contribution to national development effort.

President Steinmeier was in the company of Odeneho Okyere Kusi Ntrama, Essumegyahene, Frederik Landshöft, German Ambassador to Ghana, Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Richard Agyeman-Boadi, Kumasi Mayor and other German officials.
