Gender Minister Guarantees Psychosocial and Legal Support to Wife of ‘Violent’ Ofankor Man

The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has visited the wife of the violent Ofankor man, assuring her of the Ministry’s full support.

The Ministry intends to offer the victim of domestic violence psychosocial assistance, legal guidance, and welfare interventions to ensure her safety and well-being.

“The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting survivors of abuse and working with stakeholders to curb domestic violence across the country.”

Meanwhile, it urged the public to always report all suspected cases of any form of abuse through the Domestic Violence Call Centre on 0800-111-222/055 175 75 75(WhatsApp) or the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope call centre on 0800-800-800 /0800-900-900 or the nearest police station.

It comes after the victim appeared in a viral video, naked, while being flogged with thick canes and sticks.

The suspect was arrested by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on November 17, 2025, at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality alongside two of his siblings who attempted to attack a female tenant, whom they suspected of recording and circulating the said video.

Lamptey has been charged with Physical Assault, contrary to Sections 1(b)(i) and 3(2) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732) while his siblings, Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey, have also been charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and Threat of Harm contrary to Sections 23(1) and 74 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

They have been remanded into police custody by the Magistrate Court at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

They will reappear before the court on December 3, 2025.
