Gen Secretary of Sports Writers’ Association of Ghana Files for Re-election as AFA President

Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, the National General Secretary of the Sports Writers’ Association of Ghana (SWAG), has formally filed his nomination to run for the presidency of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA).

Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, on March 2, 2026, released a public statement to officially accept another mandate, signalling his intention to continue leading the sport on the continent.
Mr. Osei Asibey single-handedly made efforts to form the Ghana Armwrestling Federation in 2016 and was inaugurated in September 2016 by the National Sports Authority as the 40th sporting federation in Ghana.
Mr. Asibey has significantly recorded huge achievements for Ghana, winning 41 medals at Armwrestling events for his motherland at the last African games in Nigeria with an impressive medal haul.

The National General Secretary of SWAG, Mr. Asibey, who has served as President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa for the past three years and seven months, says his choice is built on a solid belief that Africa Armwrestling stands at a vital turning point in its development.
The next phase of expansion demands experienced leadership capable of consolidating previous accomplishments while initiating reforms that would position Africa more strongly within the global athletic community, according to the incumbent president of the federation.

The renowned sports broadcast journalist, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, shared what stimulated his decision to be re-elected for the presidency of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa.
He stated, “I am encouraged by member federations and athletes to seek re-election to prioritize strengthening Governance and Institutional structures, expanding competitive platforms, grassroots and youth development. Women’s participation and inclusion, strategic partnership and sponsorship mobilization and capacity building for member federations.”
