Gas Tanker Explodes At Sokoban
A gas tanker has exploded at Sokoban Ampayoo near the New Jerusalem Chapel in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The car with registration number As 4866 -19 caught fire around 10 am on Thursday, February 9, 2023.
Although personnel from the Regional Fire Service responded to the distress call in time according to eyewitnesses, the fire is yet to be brought under control, reported Opemsuo Radio’s Kwame Adu Gyamfi.
An eyewitness said the fire started when the driver tried negotiating a curve and ended up bursting a tire and landing on its side.
The Fire Service is currently using a foam compound to quell the fire.
In an interview, the Regional Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, DO3 Peter Addai said it will take a while to bring the fire under control since the truck contained about 55,500 litres of gas.
He assured that the personnel have the requisite Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and skills to quell it.
An eyewitness who identified himself as Hon Kwadwo Boateng, the Assembly Member for Sokoban Electoral Area, told Kwame Adu Gyamfi no casualty was recorded, however, the driver of the truck has been taken to a hospital for medical examination.
He commended the fire service for their swift response.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined by the Fire service.
