GAF Recruitment Stampede: One Person In Critical Condition in Kumasi- Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reported that one Ghana Armed Forces recruitment applicant is in a critical condition after a stampede at the screening centre in Kumasi.
The victim is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed medical facility.
President Mahana mentioned it at the launch of the Nkoko Nketenkete initiative on November 12, 2025, in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. He requested a minute of silence for six victims who died in a similar incident in Accra.
According to Ashanti Regional Minister Frank Amonakohene, the victim is among five persons who sustained various injuries at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Expressing his regrets, he disclosed, “I have since directed that they receive the best possible medical care and full support to ensure their speedy recovery.”
The stampede in Accra, which occurred shortly before the recruitment exercise began at around 6:20 a.m., was confirmed in a press release by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the stampede was triggered by an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols and rushed into the gates ahead of the scheduled screening. This sudden movement led to chaos and multiple casualties.
Meanwhile, the exercise has been suspended and is expected to resume tomorrow.
The Air Force screening will resume tomorrow, Thursday, November 13, while Navy applicants will be screened on Friday, and Army applicants on Saturday.
