GAF Recruitment Stampede: Mahama Visits Injured at 37 Military Hospital

President John Dramani Mahama has paid a visit to the 37 Military Hospital, where several potential military recruits are receiving medical attention following a stampede at El-Wak Sports Stadium that killed at least six.
At the facility, he was briefed by the authorities and checked on the victims.
He was accompanied by the Ag. Defence Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu and members of the military high command.
It is reported that six of the victims died while five are said to be in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Meanwhile, 12 are in fairly critical conditions.
The incident happened at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, where applicants of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) 2025/2026 recruitment exercise assembled for screening.
The stampede, which occurred shortly before the recruitment exercise began at around 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, was confirmed in a press release by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the stampede was triggered by an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols and rushed into the gates ahead of the scheduled screening. This sudden movement led to chaos and multiple casualties.
