GAF Isn’t Dumping Ground for Overage NDC Foot Soldiers- Ntim Fordjour

The Member of Parliament for Assin South Constituency, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has taken a swipe at two of the ruling party’s lawmakers for their “misconceived and misguided populist agenda” over the age limit for military enlistment.

In a social media post, he affirmed that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) must not be reduced a platform for rewarding political loyalty, adding that such a move will be fiercely resisted.

“Hon Sam George and Hon Dafeamekpor’s call for unqualified overage NDC foot soldiers into the military is a misconceived and misguided populist agenda…Ghana Armed Forces is not a dumping ground for overage NDC foot soldiers.”

According to him, such a move will pose a backward and dangerous step.

“NDC Cabinet Ministers and Parliamentary Leadership must be made to know that it is extremely backward and dangerous to force unqualified people into the military as a reward for party patronage. Stop the undue interference in the creditable and professional recruitment process underway by the Ghana Armed Forces.”

Call For Change
The two lawmakers have advocated for a raise in the maximum age limit for military enlistment.

The advocacy initiated by the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, received the full support of the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the Communication Minister called for a re-examination of the maximum age for enlistment.

“There are people in their 30s who are physically fit and sound enough to serve their Nation. We must not deny them this opportunity simply because of their age.”

Dafeamekpor followed up with his call to peg the maximum age at at least 40 years, saying the National Democratic Congress foot soldiers aren’t pleased with the current limit.

He wrote this as he outlined the maximum and minimum age limits in 20 countries around the world.
