GAF Employs “Stringent” Measures Against Illegal Use Of Accoutrement
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) says it is employing “stringent” measures in dealing with the illegal use of military pattern clothing, equipment and other accoutrements by the public.
These measures, the Army said, will enable it to deal with the growing menace “appropriately”.
Per a statement from the GAF, some individuals have been deliberately acquiring military stuff to embark on a heinous agenda.
These actions, the army said, put the service in dispute.
Instances
The GAF cited an instance where a man was arrested in Bawku in the Upper East region while spraying his car in military colours.
He was arrested on December 22, 2022, the GAF said.
It also cited cases where some persons in military pattern clothing engaged in several criminal activities.
“GAF is putting in these extra measures following disclosures and investigations which indicate that some miscreants have been deliberately acquiring these military pattern clothing and equipment including guns for diabolical reasons thereby escalating tensions in some communities and also placing the Ghana Armed Forces in disrepute.”
The actions of such persons, the army said, are derailing its efforts to secure the country and bring normalcy to some conflict-prone areas.
Public Cooperation
GAF has called for public cooperation in fishing out these miscreants and dealing with the illegal use of military accoutrements.
“GAF, therefore, requires maximum cooperation of all Ghanaians as it puts in these stringent measures to curb the sale, use, wearing of military uniforms and use of military-grade equipment by unauthorised persons as it is prohibited under NLCD 177”.
