Fuel Levy Takes Effect on July 16- GRA

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced that the fuel levy will take effect in the next pricing window for July.

This follows a thorough review of prevailing market indicators and is in line with the government’s commitment to ensuring stable economic conditions, the GRA said in a communique cited by Graphic.

“The implementation of the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141), will now commence, effective 16th July 2025.”

The implementation of the levy in mid-June was suspended after consultations with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy. This followed uncertainties in the prices of fuel on the global market due to the Iran-Israeli conflict.

The bill for the GHC1 levy was presented and approved by parliament on June 3, 2025, with the government justifying that the action was necessary to cover an estimated US$1.8 billion required to finance fuel procurement for uninterrupted thermal power generation in the coming months.

It has, however, acknowledged the burden this will place on households and businesses.

President John Dramani Maham does not expect the levy to result in immediate fuel price increases at the pump due to the recent gains in macro stability and the strengthening of the Ghana cedi.
