Friday, June 6 Declared a Public Holiday

The Minister for Interior, Hon Muntaka Mubarak has announced Friday, June 6, 2025, a public holiday in commemoration of Eid-Ul-Adha.

He has since directed it to be observed accordingly.

“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, 6th June 2025, marks Eid-Ul-Adha, which is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” he said in a statement.

Eid-ul-Adha is the second of the two main festivals celebrated in Islam.

It commemorates the obedience of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ishmail upon Allah’s command.

During this annual festival, Muslims who can afford to sacrifice a ritually acceptable animal share the flesh equally among themselves, the poor, and friends and neighbours.
