French Football Federation to Sue Argentina

The French Football Federation is prepared to sue the Argentine senior national team for what it characterizes as racist and discriminatory comments conveyed by the latter in a song they sang and posted on social media.

Some La Albiceleste players, in the prime of the celebration of their victory in the Copa America last Sunday, sang a song about Le Blues which said, “They play for France but they are from Angola, His mother is Nigerian, His father Cameroonian, But on the passport: French.”

The video was posted by Chelsea’s midfielder, Enzo Fernandez.

Denouncing the action of the Argentines, the President of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, said it constitutes racism.

According to him, their action is “unacceptable”.

He added, “Faced with the seriousness of these shocking remarks, contrary to the values of sport and human rights, the president of the FFF decided to directly challenge his Argentine counterpart and FIFA and to file a lawsuit for abusive remarks of a racial and discriminatory nature.”

Enzo has since apologized for his action acknowledging that the song has highly offensive language.

In a statement left on his social media pages, he said, “I want to apologise sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations…there is absolutely no excuse for these words.”

“I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologise for getting caught up in the euphoria of our Copa America celebrations. That video, that moment, those words, do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I am truly sorry.”
