Freemasonry is Not Anti-Christ- Afenyo Markin

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has affirmed that Freemasonry is not against the principles and doctrine of Christ.

Contrary to perceptions about the fraternity, he emphasized that members are enjoined to profess Christ.

“Freemasonry is not anti-Christ. If nothing at all, at the highest level of Masonry, you must profess Christ. People don’t know and people say things,” he said in an interview on Channel One TV after the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie forbade Catholic association with it.

Despite the condemnation by the clergyman in a press statement, he said he was yet to receive any correspondence from his Archbishop, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle.

The politician served notice about his preparation to fight against the misconception and opposition from the Church.

“If I receive a delegation from my church leaders for a conversation, we will have a good conversation…My church first. The church doesn’t force people; the church shows compassion, listens, and shows love. My Archbishop, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, has not written any letter to me. I have been seeing letters flying, but nobody has written a letter to me personally.”

The Effutu Member of Parliament openly made his membership known during the vetting of the now Minister for Youth Development and Employment, George Opare Addo on January 22, 2025.
