Four Armed Men Arrested for Reinvading the Subri River Forest Reserve

Four armed men have been arrested after invading the Subri River Forest Reserve following its sanitisation from illegal mining.
They were arrested on Friday, March 27, 2026, by the Western Regional Forestry Office in collaboration with the Takoradi District Office of the Forestry Commission, according to a report by Erastus Asare Donkor.
According to Erastus, the suspects were providing security for the illegal miners.
He reported that the four besieged the Jerusalem and Wassa Nkran portions of the Subri River Forest reserve and had started construction of makeshift structures to initiate the destruction of a significant portion of the reserve.
The Western Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, Nana Poku Bosompim, reported that the rapid response team from Takoradi was first dispatched to the scene but was outnumbered, necessitating reinforcement to control the situation and make arrests.
The team seized four pump-action guns and totally immobilised one excavator found in the forest.
