Former MASLOC Boss Detained by US Authorities Pending Extradition

The former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Mrs Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, has been detained by US authorities as part of processes to extradite her to Ghana.
This was confirmed by Victor Smith, Ghana’s Ambassador to America, in a statement issued January 15, 2026.
According to him, she has been detained at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre since January 6, 2026.
According to him, her detention is in relation to an extradition request sent to the US Authorities sometime in July 2024.
He added, “US Marshals arrested Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu and placed her in detention to await her day in court.”
Background
In April 2024, Sedina, alongside the former Chief Operating Officer of MASLOC, Daniel Axim, were found guilty of 78 counts of causing financial loss to the state, theft, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and contravening public procurement laws.
They are reported to have embezzled GH¢3.19 million during their tenure at MASCLOC, causing a deliberate financial loss of GH$90 million to the state.
Sedina was sentenced to a 10-year prison sentence while her subordinate was given five years.
