Former First Lady Theresa Kufuor Dead
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has lost his wife, Theresa Kufuor at age 87.
Reports indicate that the former First Lady died at her residence in Peduase in the Eastern Region surrounded by her family.
Her death was reported on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
The former midwife began her education at the Catholic Convent, OLA, in Keta in the Volta Region of Ghana. She furthered her studies to become a Registered General Nurse in the Southern Hospital Group of Nursing, in Edinburgh in Scotland.
After further study at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford and Paddington General Hospital, London, she qualified as a State Certified Midwife with a Certificate in Premature Nursing.
She married Mr Kufuor in 1961 and became Ghana’s second First Lady in the fourth Republic between 2001 and 2009.
Tributes have been pouring in following the news of her demise.
In a Facebook post, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei constituency, Patrick Yaw Boamah wrote, “May the gentle soul of H.E. Theresah Aba Kufuor rest peacefully with our Maker, you were mother and more to me and all others who came into close contact with you. Heartfelt condolences to Ex. President J.A. Kufuor, the immediate family, and Ghana as a whole. Damirifa due, Maa Theresa.”
Clement Opoku Gyamfi, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie South also wrote on Facebook, “I am saddened by the news of the death of Mrs. Theresa Kufuor, wife of former President John Agyekum Kufuor. In these trying times, I send my deepest condolences and pray for God’s strength for the family of the former President.”
