Former Bono East Health Director Takes Over Ashanti Region
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has appointed Dr Fred Adomako Boateng, as the Director for Health in the Ashanti Region.
He replaces Emmanuel Tinkorang who has since retired from service.
The West African College of Physicians & Surgeons- Community Health Fellow was introduced to the King of the Asante Kingdom at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi by the Director-General of the GHS, Dr Patrick Kuma Aboagye, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
Highlighting his track record, Dr Kuma Aboagye expressed his confidence in the competence of Dr Adomako.
“This young man did well in Bono East and I’m encouraged he will do well here. I urge all to support him.”
In an update, Dr Kuma Aboagye said four out of five 40-bed health facilities in the Ashanti Region had been completed and would become operational this month. They are located at Twedie, Drobonso, Sabronum and Sekyere Afram Plain.
“These hospitals are ready for operation. All others will start later.”
Welcoming the new appointee, Otumfuo expressed gratitude to the Director-General for giving the region the best.
He further urged the new leader to live up to expectations.
“I thank D-G for choosing someone you trust. We thank all others for the healthcare services you render. I welcome you. You are here because of health care. Make sure all dormant health facilities are operationalised.”
The Asantehene also tabled some concerns over healthcare delivery in the region to the Director-General for redress.
“Afari, Kumawu, Sewua- first they said light and road but the contractor is still dragging his feet. Look at that for me. Look at the machinery at Bekwai too. KATH issues are also confusing. Some are said to be under Health Service and others…. It makes it all confusing.”
