Football is an Injury-Entwined Game – Kotoko Physiotherapist
The physiotherapist of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, Emmanuel Duah-Kuffour Jaidyn also known as Mr Jay has emphasized that injuries are an inherent part of the game of football. According to him, as athletes who rely on their bodies as machines to perform, injuries are inevitable and players must prioritize maintaining their physical well-being.
“Football is an injury-entwined game. Whether you like it or not, once you are an athlete and your use your body which is machine to operate, it will be at fault and you will have to maintain it. Everyone gets injured,” he said in an interview on Pramaso with Biggy on July 13.
Addressing claims that Kotoko players suffer more injuries compared to players from other clubs, the physiotherapist attributed such perceptions to media coverage and misinformation.
“I disagree with the notion that Kotoko experiences a higher number of injuries. This perception arises because Kotoko is the biggest club in Ghana. Whenever Kotoko is mentioned, it generates a lot of conversations,” he stated.
He further explained, “If a player from Team A gets injured, it might not receive as much attention. However, if players like Isaac Oppong, Richmond Lamptey, or Richmond Boadu, who are associated with Kotoko, sustain injuries, it lingers in people’s minds. This creates a false impression that Kotoko players frequently get injured. However, official records do not support this notion.”
When asked about the possibility of working with the national team in the future, Jaidyn expressed his willingness but emphasized that his current contractual commitment lies with Kotoko. For now, he is dedicated to serving the club and focusing on his responsibilities within that role.
