Focus on Your Duty Not The Hostility Against You; Asantehene to New UPSA VC

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has counselled the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor to keep himself occupied with chalking success for the institution.

The King in his remarks stated clearly that enmity and hostility were an inevitable aspect of his position.

However, Otumfuo believes beyond any reasonable doubt his success at the post will shut all his adversaries up and prove them wrong in the long run.

He therefore urged the VC to focus on his duties and not the hostility staring at him in the face.

“Not everyone will approve of your appointment so take your mind off the hatred that is coming at you and focus solely on your responsibility as the VC for success. When you become successful, all those who disapprove of you will approve of you,” the Monarch said, assuring him of his constant prayers.

Footsteps
Additionally, Otumfuo urged him to emulate the footsteps of the immediate past VC, Prof. Abednego Okoe Feehi Amartey under whose tenure, he said, the University witnessed massive development across faculties.

Through his leadership, His Majesty stated, that UPSA had become a household name and school of choice for students and high-profile events.

“I will encourage you to emulate his humility and continue all the good works he laid out.”

Prof Mawutor was at the Manhyia Palace to seek the blessings of Otumfuo to undertake his duty. He was accompanied by his predecessor, Prof. Abednego Okoe Feehi Amartey on January 24, 2025.

For his part, Prof Amartey expressed immense gratitude to the Asantehene for the unflinching support he enjoyed during his eight-year tenure as VC.

Prof Mawutor’s appointment as VC took effect on January 1, 2025.
