FixTheCountry Group Demands Independent Civilian Probe Into Islamic SHS Clash

The fixthecountry group has, among other things, called for an independent civilian probe into allegations of violence on the part of security officers during the clash with some students of the Islamic Senior High School.

Chronicling incidents of security officers’ abuses against students since 2018, the group said it is disturbed about the extent to which the use of guns and live ammunition have become a part of the security agencies in enforcing the law.

The group wants an establishment of “an independent civilian expert body with prosecutorial powers to probe the allegations of violence by members of the security agencies”.

It is also looking forward to a ban on the use of military personnel in civilian crowd control situations as well as a ban on the use of guns and live ammunition in student crowd control.

Additionally, the FixTheCountry group demands the institution of operating procedures on public order policing which are consistent with human rights and respect for human dignity.
