Five-member Committee to Evaluate Fisheries Licence

A five-member Committee has commenced the evaluation of the Fisheries Licence following its inauguration.
Their inauguration is in line with the provisions of the Fisheries Act and strengthens the institutional framework for fisheries management in Ghana.
Speaking at the ceremony on March 16, the Deputy Executive Director (Technical), Professor Berchie Asiedu, highlighted the importance of a credible and transparent licensing system for the effective regulation of the sector.
He emphasised that the establishment of FLEC will enhance due diligence in evaluating fisheries license applications and promote accountability in the licensing process.
Professor Asiedu congratulated the Committee members on their appointments and expressed confidence in their ability to contribute meaningfully to the Commission’s work.
He noted that this milestone demonstrates the Commission’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, fair, and efficient process for evaluating fisheries license applications.
Delivering a speech on behalf of the Committee, Captain Derrick Attachie of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) underscored the need for objectivity, professionalism, and integrity in fulfilling the Committee’s mandate.
He added that the Committee’s work will have a direct impact on the sustainability and proper governance of Ghana’s fisheries sector.
The Fisheries License Evaluation Committee is expected to play a key role in promoting accountability and supporting the sustainable management of Ghana’s fisheries resources.
