Firefighters Avert Potential Disaster as Diesel Tanker Crashes at Breku Forest

The Ghana National Fire Service responded quickly to prevent a possible explosion after a diesel tanker overturned, spilling fuel at Breku Forest off the Kumasi–Accra Highway.
The accident was recorded on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at about 0912 hours, while the DAF XF diesel tanker with registration number BF 6646 E2-03 was conveying 45,000 litres of fuel.
The accident resulted in a spillage of approximately 11,000 litres, while two persons sustained minor injuries.
The Konongo-Odumase Fire Command, led by AStnO Owusu-Ansah, responded to the accident scene to cool the tanker with water and foam.
The spilt diesel was blanketed to prevent ignition.
“Their swift intervention successfully salvaged about 34,000 litres of fuel and averted a possible fire outbreak,” a statement by the Service said.
The injured were transported to the hospital for treatment with no fatalities recorded.
“The cause of the accident is under investigation. Plaudits to all supporting agencies for their operational support in ensuring the towing of the affected tanker and the free flow of traffic.”
