Fire Service Warns Against Heavy Burglar-proof and Security Doors Installation in Homes

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has warned the public to exercise caution when opting for heavy burglar-proof and security doors in homes.
Acknowledging the security these offer, it juxtaposed it with the immense security gap and threat they pose for families, especially during the outbreak of fire.
“The general public is advised to be careful with heavy burglar-proof and security doors in homes. While security is important, buildings must also allow quick escape and easy access for rescue teams during fires or related emergencies.”
It comes after six family members were burned to death in a seven-bedroom self-contained residential building at Abuakwa Manhyia in Kumasi on December 22, 2025.
“Despite the swift response, the entire building and its contents were completely destroyed by the fire. Six (6) badly charred bodies, believed to be members of the same family, were retrieved by firelighters and handed over to the Police at the scene.”
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The Service further directed the public to reach out to them promptly via 112 / 0302772446 / 0505001415 or the nearest Fire Station’s direct number for prompt response in case of any emergency.
“The GNS further reiterates its commitment to intensifying public fire safety education, inspections, and enforcement to prevent avoidable fire incidents, especially during the festive and harmattan emergencies.”
