Fire at Ngyesia Landing Beach Leaves 2 Dead, 12 Injured
Two of the 14 individuals who sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fire that engulfed the Ngyesia Landing Beach in the Western Region on Saturday, May 18, 2024, have been reported dead.
The injured including 10 males and four females were admitted to a hospital; however, two died on Sunday.
The flames ignited by a spilt premixed fuel also damaged four (4) wooden structures, a fish smoking area, an electric pole, two (2) cars, and an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) service line.
It was extinguished at 1652 hours, the Public Relations Directorate of the Western Regional branch of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said in a statement on Sunday.
“On Saturday, May 18, 2024, a fire at Ngyesia Landing Beach, Sekondi, injured 14 people due to a spillage of premixed fuel. The fire reported at 1609 hours, led to the dispatch of two fire appliances from Sekondi Metro and Shama Fire Stations, arriving at the scene at 1621 hours and 1625 hours respectively.”
“The vapours from the spilt premix fuel caught fire from a nearby fish smoking area and flashed back injuring people and damaging properties. Residents’ initial efforts to control the fire with sand and seawater were unsuccessful, but the GNFS’s timely intervention prevented further devastation,” it explained.
