Final Year Student of UENR Dies of Poisoning

A final year Petroleum Engineering student of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), identified as Godfred Akomaning, has died of poisoning.

He died on Saturday, March 21, 2026, while receiving treatment at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.

Confirming the news in a statement, the institution said the medical report from the hospital identified the cause of death as organophosphate poisoning.

His remains have been deposited at the Sefwi Anwiaso Community Hospital mortuary.

Meanwhile, his family has been duly informed about the unfortunate development.

“Management of UENR expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family and the university community,” the statement noted.

It also announced an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the death, with assurances that further details will be made public once confirmed.
