FIFA Increases U20 Women World Cup Slots
Twenty-four teams instead of sixteen will partake in the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup tournament in Columbia.
This was announced by the President of world football governing body FIFA, Gianni Infantino after a video-conference by the Federation’s Council.
This allots four slots to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), four for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation of North, four from Central America and Caribbean Association Football, (Concacaf), four from South American Football Confederation is the continental (CONMEBOL), two from Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), five from Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and a slot for Colombia- the host country.
Before this, the AFC had three slots, CAF two slots, Concacaf three, CONMEBOL two, UEFA four, plus the host country.
The women’s youth football tournament will be the eleventh edition.
It will take place from 5 to 22 September 2024.
It will be the third time that Colombia has hosted a FIFA tournament. It will also be the first time that Colombia has hosted a FIFA women’s tournament.
