FDA Stops Kangen Alkaline Water Production
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has restrained the manufacturer of Kangen Alkaline Water, 100% Alkaline from further production.
This comes after the Authority found the manufacturer was misusing its registration.
The website of the manufacturer claims the product is registered by the FDA and has medicinal properties.
It reads; “A normal human being with no underlining sickness, one can drink Kangen Alkaline Water of pH of 8.5, 9.0, 9.5 to boost the alkalinity of the body and to make it immune to diseases as its medically proven that no disease can thrive in an alkaline medium including the deadly Cancer.
“For an individual with an underlining health disorder or a chronic disease, Kangen Alkaline Water of 10.5 and 11.5 pH respectively are recommended to be consumed on a daily basis to rapidly aid in treatment of these diseases.”
But the FDA disputes these.
It explained that the manufacturer earlier applied to register for the production of drinking water, however, upon receipt of the registration number, it rather used it for the production of its 100% alkaline water.
Therefore, the FDA holds that the product is not registered in Ghana and its safety and efficacy are not guaranteed.
“It is important to note that the medicinal and healing properties o the product as being advertised have not been subjected to any scientific analysis and therefore the Authority cannot guarantee its efficacy and safety for these claims.”
It also noted that the action of the manufacturer violates Section 100 (1) of the Public Health Act 2012 (ACT 851).
It has, therefore, halted the production of the product at its facility.
“The Authority has therefore halted the operations of the facility where Kangen Water, 100% alkaline is produced and the manufacturer has been directed to recall products in trade pending further investigations.”
The FDA has also cautioned the public against purchasing the product.
