FDA Closes 7 Food Service Establishments Without Hygiene Permit

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has closed down seven more food service establishments operating without a Hygiene Permit.
This was during an inspection exercise within the Tema municipality on February 23, 2026.
This operation, which is the second in the series, comes after the Authority, in a public notice, cautioned that all food businesses regularise their operations before Feb 1, 2026, or face closure.
In the first operation, 16 non-compliant food service establishments, including The Cheesecake House, Dolce Frizzante, Onda, Alora Beach Resort, amongst others, were shut down.
In an earlier statement, the Authority said the mandatory requirement applies to restaurants, lounges, hotels, chop bars, snack bars, food vans, bakeries, event caterers, online food businesses, canteens (in schools, hospitals, offices), and all other establishments involved in food service.
This enforcement action is in strict accordance with Section 130(1) of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), which states that a person shall not manufacture for sale, sell, supply or store products regulated under this Part except in premises registered for that purpose under this Part.
It noted that establishments found non-compliant will remain closed until they fully regularise their operations and obtain the Food Hygiene Permit.
