Expert: Sex Is Good For Pregnant Women But Must Avoid Missionary Position

An expert has said sexual intercourse is recommended for pregnant couples ruling out all conspiracy theories surrounding sex during pregnancy.

In a brief interview with media personality Kafui Dey, the expert said there is no side effect to it, rather it has numerous benefits for the trio- the father, mother and baby.

“It always creates bonding between the baby, the father and the mother and there is always happiness and peace in the home. There is no myth surrounding sex during pregnancy”.

She added that sex is a deep breathing exercise for pregnant women which aids them during labour.

Asked when sex is appropriate for a pregnant woman, she said, “You can have sex from day 1 till you deliver if only everything is okay- if you don’t have incompetent cervix and if you don’t have placenta issues. These two main things play a critical role.”

She, however noted that pregnant women must avoid the missionary position during sexual intercourse as it endagers the baby.

“The woman shouldn’t lie on her back at all. The cowgirl or the reverse cowgirl position is recommended.”

She further explained, “(Lying on the back) deprives the baby of oxygen, nutrients and blood supply. It can also kill the baby.”

She upheld that her submissions are research-based.

Sex during pregnancy is surrounded by numerous myths such as inducing labour, harming fetus, inducing miscarriage, etc.
