Ex-National Signals Bureau Director-General Arrested By EOCO

The Minority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has announced the arrest of the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Mr Kwabena Adu Boahene.

The former official was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport on March 20 around 8 pm upon arrival in the country from the United Kingdom (UK).

According to the MP for Effutu Constituency who described the arrest as the government’s “persecution” of political opponents, Mr Adu Boahene was informed he had been on the wanted list of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at the airport.

He was therefore handcuffed and whisked away in a white Nissan Navara pickup with registration number GN 8850-22 filled with fully armed men around 9 pm and other pickups, the lawmaker reported.

In a Facebook post, he recounted, “Upon arrival at the CIP, he went through immigration formalities. While patiently waiting in the lounge for his baggage, an immigration officer informed him that there was an issue with his name that needed to be rectified at the main office in Terminal 3 Departures. He was also told that he needed to have a discussion with the Immigration Boss.

“Mr Adu Boahene willingly followed the officer to the Immigration office at Terminal 3 Departures. After about 10 minutes, he was informed that he was on EOCO’s stop list and was wanted accordingly.”

According to Afenyo-Markin, his location is still unknown as of Friday morning.
