Ex- Black Meteors Captain Yaw Yeboah Handed Lifetime MLS Ban for Betting

Former Ghana U-23 (Black Meteors) captain, Yaw Yeboah has received a lifetime ban from the Major League Soccer after being found guilty of breaching the league’s gambling rules.
The MLS confirmed the decision in a statement on Monday, revealing that Yeboah and American midfielder Derrick Jones were both sanctioned following an investigation into betting activities connected to league matches.
According to the league, the probe began after integrity monitoring partners detected suspicious betting alerts. This prompted MLS to open a formal investigation into the activities of the two players.
To ensure a thorough review, the league appointed law firm Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP to lead the investigation while the players were placed on administrative leave during the process.
Following the investigation, MLS determined that the players were involved in multiple betting activities on football matches, including games that involved their own teams, which is a serious violation of league regulations.
The sanction brings an end to Yeboah’s involvement in MLS competitions. The former winger, who previously played for clubs including Manchester City, Real Oviedo, Numancia, and Wisla Krakow, recently joined Qingdao Hainiu in the Chinese Super League on a free transfer last month.
The 28-year-old captained the Black Meteors at the 2019 Africa U-23 Championship held in Egypt.
