Enough is Enough Demo: Police Probe Kumasi Chaos
Investigations have been launched by the police into the disturbances that characterized the “Enough is Enough” Demonstration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
A statement by the Ghana Police Service said the incident was an isolated one that marred what would have ended as a peaceful protest on September 17, 2024.
One police officer was injured by the protesters according to the Service. There are also multiple reports of injury of at least one of the protesters; however, that has been discredited by the police.
In their statement, the police explained, “In Kumasi, contrary to the arrangements agreed between the Police and the organizers, the demonstrators attempted to push their way into the premises of the Electoral Commission and pelted the Police with stones.
“The Police managed to bring the situation under control and calm was restored. However, one Police officer was injured during the incident and he is receiving medical attention. The Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has reached out to him via a telephone call and wished him well.”
Though some arrests were effected, the suspects were later freed.
