Emmanuel Kusi Traces Musical Roots and Unveils ‘Extollo Jesu 2025’ on Kumasefie

Gospel musician Emmanuel Kusi has shared the deep family heritage behind his music journey, revealing that his passion for ministry was unknowingly nurtured from childhood. Speaking on Kumasefie, he noted that music “has always been in the family.”

According to him, he only recently discovered the extent of that heritage.

“I’ve come to realize my grandfather used to play drums in Manhyia,” he said, adding that one of his uncles was a horn player, while his brother has trained several choirs across Kumasi.

“At that time, it was cassettes he used to write lyrics. Not knowing God was also preparing me to step into the music ministry,” he recounted.

Kusi, who has long served as a background vocalist, said he has backed notable gospel artistes such as Nana Boahemaa and Oware Junior. His active involvement in events began in 2017, eventually leading to the establishment of his own annual worship event.

He announced that this year’s edition, Extollo Jesu 2025, themed “The Fruit of My Lips,” will be held on December 7 at Power Chapel, starting at 4 p.m. Artistes expected to minister include Hannah Marfo, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, Cwesi Oteng, Victor Afari, and several others.

Kusi also touched on the beginnings of his songwriting and recording career. He recalled that his first song was recorded in 2016 by Agya Yaw, a keyboardist.

Since then, he has continued to write and minister, though not without challenges.

He highlighted one issue many gospel musicians face: “There are instances where you go for a show, especially church programms and there will be no money given to cater for your transportation and other expenses.”

However, he encouraged upcoming gospel artistes to adopt better structures.

“Gospel musicians should get managers to curb these challenges,” he advised.

Despite these difficulties, Emmanuel Kusi remains committed to his calling and hopes Extollo Jesu 2025 will be a powerful encounter of worship and gratitude.
