Eight Fire Tenders Deployed as Fire Ravages Adum PZ Shops

Eight fire tenders have been deployed to Adum PZ in the Kumasi Central Business District where a fierce fire has gutted a four-storey building housing shops.

The fire according to eyewitnesses, started on the top floor around 4 am on Friday.

However, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says it was informed around 6 am.

Five tenders were initially deployed with three additional ones and a turntable ladder from the Regional Headquarters, KNUST, Ejisu, and Twedie, to battling the blaze.

“The GNFS was informed at 6:05 AM, and the first appliance from Regional Headquarters arrived at the fire scene at 06:15 am.”

Videos from the scene showed some traders racing against time to take out their goods from the building.

Firefighters are battling to contain the blaze with difficulty in accessing the building.

“Rigorous firefighting efforts are underway to contain and prevent the fire from spreading further,” the Fire Service in a statement.

The Regional Fire Commander, his Deputy, Operations officers, and other District Commanders are at the scene overseeing fire management.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Frank Amoakohene, in a Facebook post, sympathized with the victims.

“Fire Service and other forces are on the grounds. They need all your assistance and cooperation. Sorry to everyone affected.”

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
