Eduwatch Highlights Exam Malpractices, Teacher Rationalisation, Others in Report to GES

The Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch) delegation, led by its Executive Director, Kofi Asare, has presented key findings from a study conducted on the country’s education system to the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The presentation offered an assessment of the sector, highlighting the strengths, challenges, and actionable recommendations.

Among the major issues raised were teacher rationalisation and equitable deployment, examination malpractice, the effectiveness of the school feeding programme, the administration of the capitation grant, and the availability of school furniture, particularly desks.

While the study acknowledged notable improvements, such as the more timely disbursement of capitation grants in recent periods and the promising impact of the sanitary pad initiative in promoting inclusive education, it also identified some gaps.

These include persistent desk deficits in some schools and ongoing concerns regarding examination malpractice, both of which require targeted and sustained intervention.

Receiving it on Monday, March 30, 2026, the Management of the GES expressed appreciation for the insights provided and reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with civil society organisations to address identified gaps and improve educational outcomes nationwide.

According to the Service, the dialogue with the CSO reflects Management’s firm commitment to decentralising education governance and fostering inclusive decision-making.

“It also underscores GES’s readiness to listen to diverse perspectives, including constructive criticism, evidence-based appraisals, and policy recommendations, all aimed at strengthening the education system to meet the demands of the 21st century.”
