Education Minister To Be Questioned Over School Placement Scandal

The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum is scheduled to appear before a Parliamentary Committee over a documentary alleging school placement fraud in the country.

The documentary was produced by the Fourth Estate.

In a tweet, the Member of Parliament for Builsa South and Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament, Dr Clement Apaak announced the Minister will have to answer their questions on the documentary.

The news media uncovered corruption in school placement in a documentary called “School Placement For Sale”.

The said documentary unravelled how some cleaners and security guards linked with officials at the Ministry of Education changed the original placements for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates to Grade A schools at a fee.

The Minister will appear before the Committee on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

“School Placements for Sale – The Parliamentary Committee on Education will now meet the Minister for Education on the 11th of February 2023. Stay tuned!”, he tweeted.

In an interview with Citi News, Apaak said the Education committee would like to know the outcome of the investigations of the Ministry into the allegations.

“Our goal is to get to hear what the outcome of that committee’s work has been and what recommendation has been made, and we want to seek from the Minister how we can ensure that this does not reoccur given that there are going to be placements next week”, he is quoted to have said.
