ECOWAS Appeals For Support For Guinea After Explosion
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has appealed to international communities to rise to the aid of Guinea after an explosion hit the central hydrocarbon depot of Kaloum in Conakry.
On Sunday night, the capital of junta-ruling country recorded an explosion at an oil terminal. This was followed by an inferno through to Monday morning, killing at least eight people and injuring 84 others.
The cause of the fire is still not known.
In a statement dated December 19, the West African bloc commiserated with the bereaved families and sent out its condolence to same.
“The Commission sends its condolences to the family and its compassion for the different victims.”
“The ECOWAS Commission learned with sadness of the explosion followed by the fire at the central hydrocarbon depot of Kaloum in Conakry which occurred on the night of December 17 to 18, 2023, which caused damage.”
It further urged the international community to support Guinea.
“The Commission wishes to express on behalf of all the institutions of the people of the Republic of Guinea, the international community to provide their support to Guinea in these difficult moments.”
