ECG Ends Revenue Mobilisation Exercise Today
The month-long clamp down on indebted customers by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will come to an on Thursday, April 20, 2022.
The ECG was owed some GH¢5.7 billion by customers across the country and began the revenue mobilisation exercise on March 20 to retrieve 100% of the debt.
During the period, all categories of ECG customers including State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in arrears were visited by the company’s taskforce to demand payment.
In cases where the customers failed to settle their debts, their meters were disconnected.
This affected the Ghana Post Company Limited, Osu Police Barracks, Accra Digital Cental, Mfantsiman Girls’ Secondary School, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Ghana Revenue Authority In Ho, Ho Airport, KFC in Ho, Cape Coast Sports Stadium, Keta vaccine storage, and many others.
National Security and public health facilities were, however, exempted from the exercise.
So far, Graphic reports that almost half of the GH¢5.7 billion owed by customers has been retrieved through the exercise
On April 19, the Minister for Energy, Matthew Opoku Prempeh declared his support for the mobilisation exercise.
“This exercise was to send a clear signal that the operation being carried out by the ECG for some time now, has ministerial support, because as a country we cannot continue to countenance the attitude of non-payment of bills, among other illegalities and expect optimal service delivery.”
