ECG Disconnects Kumasi Airport Over Almost ₵170K Debt
The General Manager of the Ashanti Regional Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Engineer David Asamoah has confirmed the disconnection of electricity at Kumasi Airport.
He said the power was disconnected on September 13.
The disconnection, he said, springs from the company’s debt of almost ₵170, 000.
According to the regional Manager, the amount is the company’s debt to the ECG from July 2022.
In an interview with Opemsuo radio’s Kyeremateng Addo, the interim host of the Morning Show, Eng. Asamoah said the disconnection became inevitable after efforts to get the company to pay off its debt proved futile.
He said power will be restored only after a 100% payment is made by the airport.
He noted that the disconnection will not affect the key operations of the airport.
“We considered all risks and safety measures. It won’t affect airlines”, he said when the host asked about the implication on flights.
