ECG Board Chairman Nominated Minister of State at Energy Ministry
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has written to Parliament seeking approval for the appointment of the Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Deputy Energy Minister, Herbert Krapah as Minister of State at the Energy Ministry.
“I’m writing to seek parliamentary approval for the appointment of Honourable Herbert Krapa as Minister of State at the Minister of Energy in accordance with Article 78 of the Constitution,” a part of the letter read on the floor by Speaker Alban Bagbin said.
In the letter read on July 3, 2024, the President cited workload on the Ministry for the decision.
“It has been the practice for some time for the Minister of Energy to be populated by a substantive minister and three deputy ministers.
“In view of the exceptionally heavy workload now attendant at the Ministry, it has become necessary to appoint a Minister of State at the Ministry in the person of Honourable Herbert Krapa, who is currently a deputy minister.”
It comes just a day after the Minority boycotted the vetting of a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry due to the existing large government size and its accompanied financial implications to the State.
It also comes ahead of the approval of the Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the Running Mate of the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his subsequent unveiling to the country.
