ECG Begins Revenue Mobilisation Exercise
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has begun its second revenue mobilisation measure.
This was contained in a notice on Monday, May 29.
This time around, it will last for five working days beginning from Monday, May 29 to June 2.
The exercise like the previous one will target all ECG customers including state-owned enterprises.
It noted that the exercise will be monitored by a special team who will apprehend and prosecute customers who try to interfere with the exercise and engage in illegal self-re-connection after disconnection.
“Pursuant to this exercise, ECG shall operate with a lean staff pool who will provide essential services to customers during the revenue mobilisation period to enable total participation by top management and staff.”
It, however, noted that Customer Service Centres will remain open.
On March 20, the ECG began a similar exercise to collect GH¢5.7 billion owed by customers. The exercise ended on April 20.
At the time, half of the amount in arrears had been retrieved.
During the period, all categories of ECG customers including State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in arrears were visited by the company’s task force to demand payment. In cases where the customers failed to settle their debts, their meters were disconnected.
This affected the Ghana Post Company Limited, Osu Police Barracks, Accra Digital Cental, Mfantsiman Girls’ Secondary School, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Ghana Revenue Authority In Ho, Ho Airport, KFC in Ho, Cape Coast Sports Stadium, Keta vaccine storage, and many others.
