EC to Rerun Ablekuma North Parliamentary Election in 19 Polling Stations

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) is preparing to hold a fresh parliamentary election in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

This followed a meeting with the representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to resolve the impasse and pave the way for the constituency to get a parliamentary representative.

The issue in contention had to do with the fact that 37 Pink Sheets provided by the NPP and used to collate the results were scanned copies.

At the meeting, the NDC demanded that the election be rerun in 37 Polling Stations while the NPP held that the results from three outstanding Polling Stations be collated for the declaration of a winner.

The EC, however, resolved to rerun the election in 19 out of the 37 Polling Stations.

The Commission in a statement explained that the 19 scanned Polling Station results used for the collation were not verified by the Presiding Officers responsible for those Polling Stations.

“It is instructive to note that, the Commission was able to secure the Presiding Officers’ verification and confirmation for 18 scanned Polling Station results – Agents of both parties also approved same. A rerun will therefore not be held in those Polling Stations.”

The Election will be held on Friday, 11th July, 2025.
