EC Targets 70,000 New Voters in Mop-up Exercise
The Electoral Commission of Ghana says it is anticipating registering between 50,000 and 70,000 new voters in its scheduled mop-up exercise from August 1 to 3.
“The Commission projects to register between Fifty Thousand (50,000) and Seventy Thousand (70,000) Voters,” it said in a press statement ahead of the exercise.
It intends to register all persons who turned 18 years after the Limited Voter Registration Exercise ended on May 29, 2024, as well as eligible persons who could not register during the Limited Registration Exercise in May 2024.
The exercise will take place at the 268 district offices of the Commission, 26 Public Universities and 41 Prison Centres across the country from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
The Commission is looking forward to a stable network for the smooth running of the exercise as it will be conducted online.
“The Commission has received assurances from MTN that there will be a stable network during the Exercise.”
Applicants are required to present either the Ghana Card or Passport as forms of identification, it noted, adding that. “In the absence of any of the two forms of identification, two registered voters can guarantee for an Applicant through the Guarantor System.”
“Guarantors can only guarantee for 10 Applicants. Those who guaranteed for 10 Voters during the Limited Voter Registration Exercise cannot guarantee for other Applicants during the Mop-Up Exercise.”
