EC Notified of Vacancy of Kpandai Seat in Parliament

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has received a letter from Parliament notifying it about the vacancy of the Kpandai seat.
The seat previously occupied by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Matthew Nyindam was declared vacant by the Tamale High Court in November 2025 following a challenge by the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Daniel Nsala Wakpal.
In a letter to the EC, the Clerk to Parliament, EBENEZER AHUMAH DJETROR, said, “This notification is pursuant to the service of a court Order on the Clerk to Parliament as the 4th Respondent in the Suit Numbered: NR/TL/HC/E13/22/25.”
The NDC candidate filed a petition claiming the December 7, 2024, election was marred by serious irregularities.
He pointed out inconsistencies in Form 8A (the “pink sheet”) from 41 out of 152 polling stations, citing breaches of Regulations 39 and 43 of the Public Elections Regulations (CI 127).
The court ruled that these irregularities compromised the election’s integrity and ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a rerun of the parliamentary election in the entire constituency within 30 days.
Meanwhile, the NPP candidate has filed an appeal against the Court ruling.
