EC Declares Mahama Winner of 2024 Presidential Election

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Mrs Jean Mensah has declared former President John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election.

From the results of 267 constituencies, she declared Mr Mahama President-elect on December 9, 2024.

This was 48 hours after polls ended on December 7.

“I have the singular honour as the Returning Officer for the 2024 Presidential Elections to declare His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election and the President-elect of the Republic of Ghana with a total percentage of 56.55%,” she declared.

The results were collated from all sixteen regions; however, it excluded results from nine out of the 276 constituencies.

“We have not been able to collate results from nine constituencies because our offices have been besieged by political party supporters, making it impossible to complete the collation process.”

That not withstanding, she noted that the results from 267 constituencies were enough to establish the winner of the Presidential polls.

Results
Per data she put out, Mahamudu Bawumia got 4,657,304 (41.61%) votes, Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr got 16, 673 (0.15%), Christian Kwabena got 16,461 (0.15%), Kofi Akpaloo obtained 5,219 (0.09%), and Mohammed Frimpong got 4,413 (0.04%).

Nana Akosua Frimpong obtained 23,397 (0.21%), John Mahama obtained 6,328,397 (56.55%), Hassan Ayariga got 17,461 (0.16%), Kofi Koranteng obtained 3,320 (0.03%), George Twum Barima Adu got 3,091 (0.02%), Nana Kwame Bediako got 84,478 (0.05%) and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen got 31,202 (0.28%).

Electoral Data
According to data from the Commission, of the 18,774,159 registers voters, 11,4030,531 showed up to vote.

The total recorded valid votes were 11,191,422 while rejected votes were 239,109.

Nine Constituencies
The remaining constituencies are Awutu Senya East, Nsawam Adoagyir, Akwatia, Suhum, Techiman South, Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, Ahafo Ano North and Damongo.
