E/R: NAIMOS Team Uncovers Use of Children in Galamsey Activities in Atiwa Forest

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has uncovered what it calls child labour in galamey activities in the Atiwa Forest.
This was during the task force’s second day of operation on December 5, 2025, “as the team pushed deeper into the Atiwa Forest in pursuit of persistent illegal mining networks,” according to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
“The second day of NAIMOS’ Eastern Region operation began at first light on 05 December 2025.”
“From 0700 hours until nightfall, the team moved between Pimpong and Fante Ebuorho, two enclaves where galamsey activities had been flourishing along the banks of the Ayensu River.”
It also discovered diversion of the River Ayensu and heavy machinery, it reported in a statement on Sunday.
