Don’t Defile Tanoso Stool; Asantehene Warns New Chief

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has charged the newly enstooled chief of Bechem Tanoso to keep the stool consecrated.

Before permitting his oath of allegiance on July 14, 2025, Otumfuo counselled him to get familiar with the sacrilege of the stool to avoid defiling it.

“Learn the sacrilege of the stool and observe it accordingly.”

His Majesty emphasized the significance of the stool and the crucial role it plays in Asante.

“During the era of war, Tanoso, Terchire, Derma and Dwomoh used to go to war with me. The spoil from the war was always shared at Bechem. Now that we no longer wage war, you still remain important to me. You sit with me.”

According to the King, there is nothing like a minor stool in Asante as the elevation of a stool or otherwise depends on the actions and inactions of the occupant.

In addition, Otumfuo urged him to serve in his new position with humility.

“Today I entrust everything into your stewardship… But know that I despise to see chiefs exhibit arrogance, rudeness and intimidation.”

To the kingmakers, His Majesty charged to take responsibility of the new leader.

“Nurture him with good counsel and support him in all honesty.”

Nana Oteng Baffour Akomea while clutching the sword, vowed his allegiance to the Asantehene at all times and under all circumstances.
